Celebrating 10 years of KM!

For those of you who are unfamiliar with David Gurteen, David runs the successful KM website http://www.gurteen.com and founded The Gurteen Knowledge Community. A global learning community of over 15,000 people in 154 countries across the world, of which I am a member of the Liverpool Knowledge Cafe:

I was delighted to have the opportunity to meet with and chat to David at the recent BIALL Conference http://www.biall.org.uk  and he has since been awarded the "Lifetime achievement award for services to KM" from the Ark Group as part of their inaugural KMUK Awards 2010.

David has been writing and publishing a monthly newsletter for the past ten years and there are now 17,000 or more readers in something like 160 countries - having grown from an initial circulation of about 300 in May 2000. An amazing achievement, but David would love to significantly expand that readership.

Help David push the readership through to 20,000 by the end of the year! Please sign up and direct your friends and colleagues here:  http://www.gurteen.com/gurteen/gurteen.nsf/id/knowledge-letter

Library School Visits:

Providing CV and interview advice as well as industry insights and current trends to this year’s intake of graduate information professionals.

Liverpool John Moores University - World of Work

Kelly-Ann will be working with Liverpool John Moores University on their WoW®, or World of Work programme. WoW® is a unique employability initiative, and is backed by a wide range of employers. It has also featured in Times Online, CBI and in Higher Ambitions.

LJMU students have the option to gain a WoW® certificate, in addition to their degree. They are assessed on Self Awareness, Organisational Awareness and Making Things
Happen (Project Management).

MSc Information and Library Management students going through the process will be interviewed by Kelly-Ann and if successful will be awarded with the Certificate.
Kelly-Ann will be attending a briefing session with LJM on 11th February before conducting the student interviews at a later date.

Law School Careers Talks

Kelly-Ann will be working with the University of Salford Law School in March and will be addressing the issue of ‘How to secure a training contract through boosting your practical experience’ with second and third year LLB students.

The presentation will address the ways in which law students can gain practical experience after completing the LLB or LPC which will enhance their opportunities of obtaining a training contract in the future.

This follows on from the success of our careers talk to the University of Liverpool’s School of Law in November 09 on the same topic which the university found helped to plug a gap in their careers provision.

Business Information Review publication

Keri’s paper entitled Creative Career Development; an entrepreneur’s guide has been published in the December 09 issue of Business Information Review. The paper offers advice on taking an entrepreneurial approach to marketing yourself as a candidate in the current jobs market.
